Seasons Greetings

My screech owl buddy is again using it's winter roost box during the day. I didn't get around to cleaning out this summer's starling nest but I know they keep their quarters very clean and so the owl will have soft furnishings to snuggle into during the cold days ahead.

My feathered tabby kitten, my winged prince of night.
You touch my wintry heart and gift it with delight.

Those feathered eyelids could compete with glitzy show girl blings
Yet cute and fluffy as you are, you make your living killing things.

Pyjama legs top little feet with steely, gripping toes
Claws that sink and still wee hearts (Jack the Ripper covets those)

I adore you, little hunter, though secrets you won't share.
I gaze into your yellow eyes and see disapproval there.

Out To Pasture, 2021

Nice to think we've reached the darkest part of the season and begin to increase our daylight again. Can't wait to see what drama 2022 awaits. If anything like the past few years, it will be a doozy!!!

    1. Funny to think that while we shiver here in the North, you are having a heat wave in NZ, Jean. Glad you are having a wonderful Christmas Day already. Hope it's a grand year for you and yours and a big hug for all your nice comments.

  2. You are right. It'll be a doozy, indeed. We made it through the last 2 years, though, and I know we'll make it through.

    1. I wonder how this pandemic would have played out without modern medicine. As you say, Jennifer, we'll get through this. Merry Christmas to you, JB and your Muskoka critters!

    1. Aw thanks, what a good friend you are Doug! You always motivate me forward even though there isn't a lot going on in my simple life. I'm looking forward to reading more notes on your community as well as updates in your goals to keep healthy. Warmest hugs, Florence.

  4. I almost envy your cold weather. We are expecting high 70's tomorrow. Somehow, just doesn't seem right.
Love the ode to the owl. Adorable birds and it is good if we don't dwell on their eating habits:)
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Florence and that 2022 has nothing but promise.

    1. My little owl dines mostly on mice according to past rummages through their winter pellets. Of course, little birds had better beware as well. Enjoy your Arkansas mild spell, Patti. And a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to yourself, Callie and Minnie. Hope you pamper yourself well with lots of good treats, music and friendships.

    1. Guess I made it clear how much I love that little owl. Feathered eyelids! How luxurious is that?!? I did have a wonderful Christmas, thank you. I do hope you resume your posts someday, Robin. I enjoyed seeing your neighbourhood critters.

  7. Hi Florence, Did you write this little homage to the owl? You know I have a thing about them too. My sister sent me a little Owl ornament once again this year. Meanwhile, I loved how you decorated that winterizing film...very innovative! I am worried about another year of this continued whatever it is. Oh to think it will be behind us soon, if only. Cheers to you from me!

    1. Yes, Jocelyn that was my attempt at writing a poem. My word loving cousin requested I write a poem some months back, and that is what I came up with. I limit myself to only one news report a day because the virus reports are just too depressing. Been keeping sane thanks to my piano and my ukulele. It helps to focus on something that requires concentration. Also phone visits with friends and family, of course. Okay, 2022, we're ready! Bring it on!
