Happy Valentine's Day

Just listened to a podcast about a little dog, named Gobi, who bagged herself an athlete's heart during a marathon in the Gobi Desert. Here is the link to the story:

How a little dog named Gobi changed an ultramarathoner's life

A few backyard sights that help keep my life sweet:

Yes, it's me who adores you, snapping yet another picture!
I love those plush, feather covered eyelids!
Dusk signals the screech owl that it's time to rouse and begin the evening hunt.
Aw phooey! Only goldarned beans and noodles! Where's the beef?!!
Bread this time. Rye slices and tortilla wraps.
They stack nicely for take-aways!
Ellie Mae snubbed the cat grass I bought for her. This bunny, however, loved it!
I've named this male Red-Bellied woodpecker, 'Erik The Red'.
Feathers a-fluffed, a Mourning Dove couple hang out after a snowfall.
A strong sun loosening the icy clutches of Old Man Winter.
Not a pine cone, but squirrel-on-a-stick!
Miss Ruby has finally given up her efforts to chew into the bird box.

  1. I knew a Florence Valentine Day was going to be my favorite... loved the photos, particularly "Erik the Red"! Just beautiful but it sure was fun seeing that 'squirrel on a stick' from behind too. It amazes me how you get some of these without scaring the critters away, hope your V-Day is a peaceful & lovely one, Florence :)

    1. Thanks Doug, and a very warm V-Day to you as well! Getting critter shots is pretty easy as they are mostly taken through windows in the comfort of my house. When Spring arrives I'll be taking my wee camera for walkies. Glad you like Eric The Red. I think he's a handsome dude as well.

    1. Like your deer, my rabbits are semi-tame. Winter just wouldn't be the same without our backyard wildlife.

  3. Love Gobi and wrote a post on him a few years ago when I bought the book. What a dog and what a guy.
What great pictures, all sweet of the adorable critters. The one where the snow and ice seem to have a hand on your roof was a wee bit sinister:))
    Stay safe and warm.

    1. I should have ordered the book when you recommended it before, Patti. I'm now in holding position two for the one electronic copy at our public library. Really looking forward to reading more about that cute wee dog and the guy she captivated. I agree about that creepy looking roof ice. Yikes!!

  4. Beautiful photos, Florence, of your various critters. I'm always envious of your owl photos. They are remarkable. Thanks for the link ...I'd not heard of that dog story.

    1. I am so lucky to have screech owls close by, Jocelyn. Never saw a barred owl here like you have living near you, though. Waiting for my turn on the book, 'Gobi' from the Ottawa Public library.
